Secluded from Happiness

Secluded,
not one to wear her heart
on her sleeve
she gave him a chance.
She let him get close.
But she wouldn't let him break her...
She wouldn't let this one make her cry.
She wouldn't CARVE his memory into her
like before...
He would be different than the others,
sweeter,
kinder,
more real.
So she let him in,
into her home,
her room,
her heart.
And it was all fine.
He treated her great...
better than the others.
He knew just what to say
to make her smile.
It went on for a while...
this intense crush,
her feelings growing stronger every day.
until...
the dreaded moment he said those words,
"all we can be is friends"
her heart broke.
she let him get close,
and got pushed back,
put on the shelf...
again.
