The Last Thing On My Mind

by williamcampbell   Oct 15, 2008

I saw you like a thousand times,
And yet I never pictured this,
Always thought I would be happy,
But I didnt see this much bliss
You were a friend, one of the best,
Never thought of you a lover
I never thought I would have you
Now I do not want any other.
I stumbled through my life searching,
Hoping one day, love I would find.
But all this time you were right there,
The last thing on my mind.

Every once in a while I fall,
And I make a lot of mistakes
I hurt the ones I love the most,
And In their hearts I drive the stakes.
I make them cry, I break their heart,
But I really do not mean to.
I never want to see them cry,
I never want to see them blue.
Some times I dont even think,
Sometimes I think I am blind.
How could I let them be the last,
The last thing on my mind.

As I lay here in the dark streets,
Of a far off and distant land.
Dying from the wounds I sustained,
By my countries enemies hand.
I lay and think of why Im here,
And I wonder if its worth it
I reminisce of times we had,
And of all our lives greatest hits
Now as my body starts to fail,
I grab the letter you two signed,
Tears and blood flow mingled down,
You were the last thing on my mind.
