Seeking Freedom

by Viola   Oct 23, 2008

Dead gulls lie at my feet
Fall with wounded wings
On the coarse sand
Beneath them
I became deaf to the gunshots
They no longer hold an impact
Infants awoken in the night
Screaming for relief
Their feeble mother cursing under her breath
She cannot be the one to save
Dear God do you see us now?
Do you hear us?
How much suffering can be endured
How much blood spilled on this wrenched land
The sea is wide
Dark and deep
In the nights men and woman
Pile on boats to escape
But I won't, No not I
This is our land, my land
Dear God will you save us?
We wait with our heads bowed
In nightly colours walking the bare streets
When will it ever end?
