Sonnet 2: In Anticipation Of Rain

by Soulful Ensemble   Nov 3, 2008

I'm happy, even, about the loud rain
Falling quietly upon the window pane.
Monday through Sunday I like to lie awake
Thinking pleasant thoughts that aren't fake.
Every night and day the swallow sings a song
Outside the door in the cold where it belongs
I open my entrance yet she wont come in
Too many days inside drove away her chin.
The eyes of my lover only grow more beautiful
And I hope my words become, with love, more full
So that, if she frowns, her frowns all melt away
With the coming sun that starts a brand new day.
My love, I'm calling out your name, and waiting
When will your reply come? I lay anticipating.
