I Am From

by Kayla   Nov 6, 2008

I am from Barbies,
Bubblegum medicine, and butter sandwiches.
I am from salt water,
(Foamy blue
Causing funny faces when swallowed)
Palm trees, and soaring seagulls.
I am from the crashing waves of Daytona,
Which calm me like a childhood lullaby.

I'm from Duck, Duck, Goose
with neighborhood friends.
I'm from "Don't take my stuff!"
and "Clean your pigsty!"
From "You're as jumpy as a jumping bean!"
I'm from hours of hiding,
in the barn loft,
in need of time to think.

I'm from falling out of trees
and landing on rocks as big as my head.
From flying face-first from trampolines,
and nights of endless tears.
N'Sync songs blared from my room,
me singing along from my bed,
a hairbrush in my hand.

Pictures hung around my room,
filling my mind with millions of memories.
Those memories are parts of me,
Like pieces of a puzzle,
a puzzle that, when all the pieces collide,
makes the masterpiece that is me.
