Goodnight.

by ShyandHurt   Nov 30, 2008

"Come home, love, I miss you."
I close my eyes, nodding and biting my lip to shut out the sobs,
I must stay strong.

"I know, honey, I will be home before you know it."
His soft, emotion filled voice enters my ears like a soft comforting wind, I understand he will be home soon.

"OK, I love you."
I must choke out the words, tears sliding to the corners of my mouth, stinging.

"I love you too, goodnight."
He whispers, his sound so gentle and wistful as he smiles on the other line, he misses her so.

"Bye."
I whisper as I set the phone back on its cradle, eyes sliding down my cheeks.

What I don't know is those were the last words, the last time, I would ever hear his sweet voice.

You can't control ice, you can't control people who drink.

Dead I will find him tomorrow, in a hospital bed, only able to remember his last words to me.

"I love you too, good night."
