Slowly faded

In class we were reading a poem. my teacher pointed out how "the girl faded away throughout the years" was figurativley speaking, not literally. "People can't fade away, can they?" she asked us. "They can." i said. "i've seen it happen." the teacher looked at me like i was crazy and asked me to elaborate. i bit my lip and said "i thought she was okay when she went to the doctor, but she wasn't. they sent her to the hospital and i stayed there for a few days with her. i saw the color disapear from her skin. i saw all the fight and spunk that i loved most vanish. and even though i wasn't there, i knew what she looked like when she died. she was all skin and bones, and i can't blame her for giving up. people can fade away, we just hate to admit that we've seen it happen"
