Meant To Be

by Deana   Dec 20, 2008

Fantasies light up the night
Sleeping conscience wrong or right?
Leaning closer to the heat
Heart refuses to face defeat

Hollow eyes on a smiling face
Covers pain that left its trace
Human spirit always reaching
Ignoring life's incessant teaching

Like a hurting child, finding hope
A world declining tries to cope
Falling from a pedestal high
Frozen tears can never cry

Soul mates searching never sleep
Longing for that hand to keep
In her eyes he'll always see
Some things were meant to be

Sometimes good poems get ignored in this site. So this is another case. A fantastic poem. So very well written! It gives something to think about!

This is such an excellent poem, Deana - I'm surprised you've had so many views and no comments or votes!

This stanza is my favorite, and the strongest. You might consider making it the last one:

Hollow eyes on a smiling face
Covers pain that left its trace
    Human spirit always reaching
    Ignoring life's incessant teaching
