Nothing But Net

by rebeccasarah   Jan 6, 2009

Heart pounding in your chest,
lungs grasping for air.
every breath counts.

cool wet beads streaming down your face,
concentration is key.
its just you and the court.

accusing eyes staring back.
searching for the perfect opportunity,
that may never come.

your heartbeat races the footsteps within your sprint,
squeaking with every pace across the gym,
your gym.

time passes.
only seconds left,
but the thrill only increases.

your sweaty hands reach to grab
for the fiery orange globe,
as it flies through the air at the speed of light.

nothing is more natural-more right-
than this split second
when the world stops.

complete silence burns at your ears,
but it doesn't matter.
nothing else matters.

you take your stance,
the high whistle ready to screech for the end.
all eyes are on you.

one step.
the ball soars across the room.
nothing but net.
