Benumbed

by Beautiful Chaos   Jan 8, 2009

Saunter down a city street
While life sleeps in it's bed
Dance and mingle with the people
We have left for dead

Sullen spirits, so morose
We cast them to the side
Trample on their tender hearts
As though we've never cried

A faint wind blows to carry whispers
Of their mortal pain
We pray to God to take the wind
We carry on again

Closing eyes and walking blind
So not to see the truth
Teach our children much the same
Hardening their youth

In the night, when life, it sleeps
These brave souls soldier on
Their sorrows lit up by the moon
Still hope has not withdrawn

It twinkles in their star filled eyes
A dream they pray will come
While cold hearts lie here sleeping
Praying to stay numb

Very hearfelt write ... I interpreted is as your write about the brave soldiers and their sacrifices and the uncaring attitude of rest of the cold-hearted humanity... I hope im correct :)
