Dancing

by Willow   Jan 9, 2009

Dancing in the spotlight,
With her hair done in curls.
She's what the crowd has paid for,
She's what they all adore.

But underneath that layer of makeup,
And behind that sparkling smile,
Is a girl just wanting to be understood,
A girl just wanting to be held a while.

She's far beyond perfect,
And feels like a wind up doll.
But if she stops dancing,
She fears she will become no more.

The will to please grows stronger,
As she gracefully moves about the stage.
Tomorrow night will be better,
She promises herself again.

She's dancing in the spotlight,
Doing what she knows best.
But something in her is missing,
Something no dance will fix.
