Dedication to loss.

by Em   Jan 10, 2009

(*Note. The wife of Mr. Fullerton, a man that works in my school, was killed by a drunk driver on Christmas eve, please pray for her and him.)

A life was lost not too long ago,
Didn't think the end was so close,
Retirement and traveling was on their minds,
To be together and just to relax.
Little did they know that wasn't true,
A life was to be lost so very soon,
It happened on that day,
The day before joy and giving,
A drunk driver came and showed death to a living.
Happened so quickly,
Never was it predicted,
Life lost without even blinking.
To the Heavens we pray, that's where she should be,
The loss of her was painful,
But she's there, looking down from eternity.

(Note* Mr. Fullerton suffered some neck injures but he's alive, he and his wife planned to retire soon so they could go travel. The driver that killed Mrs. Fullerton is in jail, and everyday he hopes to see Mrs. Fullerton.. alive... and smiling.)

It's interesting that you've included notes on this poem. I don't think you really need to. You've pieced together the facts in a manner that might just extend this poem to a wider audience in the way you've worded it. I say this on the basis that your "dedication to loss" is one repeated around the world, and thus very personal to a multitude of people. Well done for tackling the topic with compassion and character.
