Forgotten once, remembered twice.

by Jenn   Jan 11, 2009

Flipping through an old picture book,
Staring at the tiny faces.
Tears roll down my rosy cheeks,
As I remember those distant places.

There was me, and there was you,
Lost in each others' eyes.
We made a promise to each other,
That we would always tell no lies.

But came a day when I found out,
You had secrets behind my back.
I questioned our love, I questioned you,
If love was something that you lack.

So we said goodbye, but it wasn't enough,
Because our hearts suddenly felt empty.
And though we've said we didn't belong,
I still need you here with me.

I tell you that I love you,
And that I miss you everyday.
But something in your sacred heart,
was pulling you another way.

A gunshot will ring out tonight,
And I'll scream your name in silence.
Knowing that you're far away,
Adding to the violence.

I know the military is where your heart is,
But know I'm at home waiting.
I'm waiting for the day you return,
to join me in my sitting.

We'll sit alone, we'll talk and talk,
And I'll pass you our old kiss.
When the day comes, and they take you away,
I'll tell you that it's you I'll always miss.

You can fight and you and kill,
But you're already a hero in my eyes.
I'll kiss your cheek and tell you again,
I promise you no lies.

Our goodbye is never final,
Even when you're gone.
Because when your life they take,
I'll meet you after before long.
