Work of Art

by rosalina calling   Jan 27, 2009

I sat and stared at the blank white wall
and watched my feelings write themselves
across the board in colors all
lined liked toys upon a shelf

i looked in wonder and disbelief
as scrawling words appeared so bright
and threw the shadows in deep relief
and splashed with life the wall of white

alarmed was i at the spectrum wide
i gasped and clutched my throbbing heart
as inks of days and inks of night
made from my life a work of art

words describing how i felt
i thought could not be written down
yet there they were, for heaven and hell
to judge where i should go from now

they led me out to ocean's tide
to rising and to falling sea
to mountains reaching for the sky
to heavens from a mountain's peak

they took me up to play with stars
and down to play with devil's fire
and to Aladdin's palace far
where there i sat upon a spire

into the jungle ripe with life
and out into the desert dry
to find for me my lifelong strife
and also my contented sigh

and all at once i was returned
to empty room and wide white wall
and i stared in wonder as they burned
those brilliant words in colors all
