Sophie

He watches her from afar.
a beautiful angel struggling for air.
he knows things.
things she could never imagine.
he's seen things.
things she tries to block out.
a secret embedded within her soul.
she didn't know souls could be shared.
but he knows her oh so well.

today he watches her as usual.
she splays out on the sand.
and feels it trickle through her fingers.
just like everything else.
everything she ever loved.
does she push people away?
or do they simply leave?
a question that burns through her existence.
but not one she wants to answer.

a simple life.
no belongings, except for the dress she wears.
no family, except for the dog that follows her.
no one, except for the man watching her.
watching over her.
her every move, her every thought.
he's the reason she breathes.
but she doesn't even realize it yet.

sometimes she catches glances of him.
and she'll dance.
the attention flatters her.
almost makes her giggle.
but she does not laugh.
and she does not cry.
she simply floats on by.
and he dies inside for every misplaced smile.

he wants to watch her for all eternity.
she is beauty epitomized.
but she would never accept this.
she thrives on being different.
being someone impossible and irrelevant.
she lives her life through darkness.
it's the only way she knows.
its the only way she wants to know.

he is amazed by her lack of awareness.
but little does he know that she is aware.
well aware that her next move will be his last.
poor little Sophie grew up in darkness.
poor little Sophie is not so innocent and pure.
this dainty girl is strong and powerful underneath.
and she doesn't like being watched.
because Sophie Jordan Kelly has a plan after all.
