It guides us through perils
It guards us from wreckage
Or leads us to our end
It can make us
Or break us
When we fuss
It guides us

Telling us where harm is
Showing all our mistakes
In truth's blinding light
We may run from it
Shun it
Or face it
Embrace it
Pain is a teacher
Harsh mistress of truth
Stern mister of fate
Revealing each error
Protecting our lives
Showing us the way
To a place with no lies
Or guide us to ruin
Again and again
Pain is a teacher
Tells us when danger is near
Stops us from death with its fear
Or draws us close with its light
Makes us flee or makes us fight
Pain is a teacher
We can try to
Erase it
Or face it
Embrace it
Make case of it
But it is always there
