Dancing Memories

by Courtney   Mar 15, 2009

There she stood
Not more than 4 feet away
Playing and swaying
In the light of day

Her laughter echoed
Dancing on the water
Looking so beautiful
I couldn't believe she was my daughter

She looked at me
As she smiled
My breath stopped
And was beguiled

She waved at me
Asking me to come
Tears sprang to my eyes
As my heart beat like a drum

My vision blurred
And she began to fade
Another cruel trick
That my eyes have played

The water wrippled
Where just a year ago
She had stood
Just a little too low

My eyes close
As I try to forget
Her face as she fell
When our eyes met

The water roared
As it grabbed her under
Opening greedily
It's roar like thunder

She screamed out
And my eyes open wide
I tried to grab her
I tried and I tried

One last cry
One last heartbeat
She let go
And I fell in defeat

The sun still shines
As I dry the last tear
Yet I still hear laughter
And I pray that she is near
