Little Ember

by Jenn   Apr 14, 2009

An ember burned but long ago,
Deep within a shadow's heart.
Broken wings and dusted dreams,
The shadow was torn apart.

Building walls to protect herself,
She blocked out all the stars.
The moon lost it's evening glow,
And the sun became too far.

In time the shadow cried too much,
distinguishing the flame.
Years and years passed by,
And she only had herself to blame.

She thought of all the memories,
Which only brought her tears.
Consumed by such a downfall,
Surrounded by her fears.

Then one day, some light shone through,
She squinted at the sight.
To hear his words again,
Gave her a grateful fright.

The shadow stepped into the light,
Away from all her walls.
She dried away her tears,
Preparing for a fall.

With his ray of light around her,
She flew up to the stars.
She touched the moon inside its glow,
Always in his arms.

A smile spread across her face,
As she cried a happy tear.
After all these years, a fire had erupted,
From that tiny little ember.
