Slam poem 2009

Disenfranchised,
means, your out of the mainstream.
Society says you have no voice.
Human nature.
you arrive to set yourself apart,
you arrive to leave your mark.

Someone once said that,
Necessity, was the mother of invention.
So what you invent, is a culture.
the culture thats within you,
ingrained into your soul,
and you invent it so that the engergy of a crowd is always in motion,
you take nothing, and you create something
you cant get out, so you go up,
and you'll do whatever it takes,
to climb the ladder of popularity.
But don't blame the artist.

You can only become what you put into something,
so you dont wanna hear about what i've got,
and what you dont.
So what do you have?
you have a shirt on your back,
shoes on your feet,
a book in your hand,
and a head,
so you have to learn how to use it.

You take a little bit of this,
a little bit of that,
and make a whole lot of other.
You are the best at what you do.
but i am the best at what i do.
So dont blame the artist.

Slimy yet satisfying,
the ones that make you spit only words they wanna hear,
the ones that only wanna see themselves when they look into your eyes.

so you spin,
double breaks,
in an abandoned building,
in dim light,
as M.C.s recite,
and breakers move to beats,
and grafitti artists absorb what your puttin' out,
and express it on the streets,
on the walls of abandonded buildings.

Human nature.
You have arrived to set yourself apart,
you have arrived and left your mark.
Whether your spittin' beautiful words,
dancin to breaks, or spinnin' a double tune
to keep the crowd in a constant motion.
you still have a
shirt on your back,
shoes on your feet,
a book with a broken spine laying helplessly in your hands, and your head.
now your using it.

Disenfranchised.
now only becomes a part of your past.
And you have to look back
to know where your going to end up.
