Mariah Memories of You

by Diane   Apr 23, 2009

I remember your smile
I remember your face
I remember your presence
I remember your grace

It was like yesterday
The day you were born
A cute little baby
I could not love you more

Had I known when you got here
The way your life would turn out
We'd have flown off together
And we'd land on a cloud

I'd protect you from danger
I'd protect you from harm
We would be safe forever
You'd be wrapped in my arms

Can I stop clocks from ticking
Take back all of those years
Change the past then your future
Hold you close dry your tears

As I ponder on past days
The mistakes that I made
One thing stands out so vivid
Thats the pain on you face

I think of the good times
I know they were few
I look back to the hard times
And the guilt comes back new

Today was your Birthday
Your Sweet Sixteen
It should have been special
Here is where you should be

As I end this short story
As a tribute to you
I express truth on paper
That is all I can do

If I had just one wish
That I could make come true
I would as just to see you
For one minute or two

I would tell you my story
I would tell you my plans
I would tell you I'm sorry
Then you might understand

Don't think I did not love you
Don't think I did not care
Thought your life would be better
If I was not there

This is sad. Perhaps a child given up for adoption? I hope someday you get the opportunity to say these things to her. Well done.
