Love that keeps her going

by Marine Wife   May 4, 2009

It was his time to go
He had a job that
Forced him to leave

He had his papers
He was off to serve
In this drawn out war

She couldnt bear
To hear the news
Didnt know what to do

She held in her tears
And lived every minute
Like it was their last

He held her close
Hands stroking
Along her back

Moved her hair out
Of her face
To see her beautiful eyes

She knew just what
Was gonna come next
"If I dont return"

Is how he always starts
"Know I'll always love you
From the bottom of my heart"

She tried to smile
Hiding her worst
And deepest fears

She stood there with him
Silently praying to god
As she whispered her goodbye

It's when the tears start to fall
One final kiss
Knowing it could be that last

She placed her hand
Over her heart
Where his dog tags hung

Knowing it was the
Closest thing she
Had to the real thing

She was scared to death
She couldn't help but
Imagine him lying there dead

Someone please tell her
Why did he have to go
Fight in this awful war

Every time he leaves
She only misses him
More and more

Her mind races
A mile a minute
Pushing her over the edge

She turns on the news
Watches and listens
So confused

People bombing, soldiers dying,
Children crying,
Women sobbing

All the things that
Scare her so
Til' she cant take it anymore

She prays for him
To come home safe
Trying to stay sane

To return and tell
Of the terrible war
That's making her life hell

I think you wrote a tender version of what is in the hearts of so many as their love goes off to serve . Fear, heartache and prayers
well written , tender emotions tinged with fear. Excellent
