Nameless

by adroit   May 5, 2009

A dream with no color
rain with no thunder
a face with no eyes
a cat with one life
the resentment in the back of your mind
the last shred of compassion you have left as your survival instinct kicks in
the sudden blast and lack of sound as the bomb drops
forced peace
a sad smile
the dead dog on the side of the road
war:
no bravery, no honor, just blood, death
and misery
the wretch of a memory that never lets you go
the conscience of a soldier
rationalizations and collateral damage
the tears that don't cleanse but just burn
the lies that everyone needs to believe
the bullet that misses
every one of your forgotten wishes
the tightness, binding, when you cannot breathe
