What Can I Say?

by I WhoWhatNow   May 5, 2009

This is a story just like every other
about silly drama between two lovers
How they fell in love, and the love fell apart
Memories imprinted upon the two hearts
One day he said, "I must move away."
She wanted to tell him, "I beg you, please stay."
For his happiness she nodded, implying it didn't hurt
Inside she knew this was the end of her world.
They say that distance, makes the heart grow fonder
I say it's a lie, distance makes the heart wonder
Whether or not this love is really real
Confusing the heart on what it really feels
The little trust they had for each other broke
Jealousy and suspicion suddenly awoke
The young untainted hearts didn't know what to do
Other than to say, "I'm leaving you."
For pride neither said, "I really don't want this."
And they both walked away, destroying their bliss
It was he who first said, "Come back, I implore."
But foolishly she said, "My heart feels no more."
When he walked away, she turned to watch
Suddenly she realized the gift she had botched
She ran after him, hoping he still cared
Perhaps he hadn't forgotten the passion they shared
By the time that she reached him to fix her mistake
His heart was all empty, and it was too late
The pain and the greif that burned her like ice
Told her his love wouldn't come about thrice.
She cried until her tears had tears of their own
And until her pain, seared into her bones.
She threw herself into the moments they had
Cursing each one, for driving her mad.
Cursing her stupidity, what had she done?
She searched for excuses, but she found none.

With time and words, she managed to heal
For another heart came, her heart to steal
With flowers and songs, and a calm, romantic voice
She suddenly found herself with a difficult choice
Should she stay loyal to the love she'd sworn true
Or should she let go, and like him, move on too?
She knew what he promised, he never would keep
He wouldn't come back, the past forever sleeps
That she was the only one still stuck in that past
And with one painful wrench, she let go at last
Sometimes she looks back, when no one is watching
One tear falls to the ground, and she keeps walking
Her hand held in his, this new love she found
And unlike her last, she'll keep this one around.
