Like it should be

I want to be four years old again
need her to hold me on my lap
I'll giggle and scream with delight
and she'll hold me and smile

I want to be ten years old
need her to listen as I read her stories
I'll smile and read with expression
and she'll laugh in all the right places

I want to be 16 years old
need her to worry about me on the road
I'll roll my eyes and assure her I am fine
and she'll frown and her forehead will cease with worry

I want to be 19 years old
need her to notice the ring on my finger
I'll jump with excitement as I tell her he proposed
and she'll sit shocked and be happy I am

I want to be 22 years old
need to tell her i'll be a mom
I'll confess with a smile
and she'll gasp and hug me tight

I want to go back
need to go forward
I'll treasure every moment like I should
and she'll be here like she would have liked
