You

by gabriel   May 17, 2009

Look straight into these sad eyes
And maybe you will see
A single soul living in lies
With unsound sanity

Empty promises like shards of pain
Broken glasses cutting
Through varicose veins
A darkened past barely spoken
You've seen the eyes
Of a sad man broken

Years of a heart hardened with steel
Losing all hope, even its will
Left to die in desert sand
Sinking until you grabbed my hand

Pulling me out ankle deep
I had no idea to wallow or weep
You sat there and listened to me
A passerby you were deemed to be

When I saw your face distraught
I had this very thought
Perhaps I'll be left for dead
I could see high up above
Carrion circling over my head

I saw a glitter within your guise
Maybe it was the scorching sun
Only did I finally realise
Those tears that had me stunned

You lifted me up and held me so
Somehow I knew you wouldn't let go
I stood there and closed my eyes
Trickling down those years of lies

I felt an indescribable fire
Lighted within a heart so cold
Intensity increasing like a pyre
You had come to warm my soul
