Footprints on the Beach

by Brian n Josh   Jun 17, 2009

Sitting near the ocean,
No one there but me.
Nothing but sea shells and sweet smells,
and the calm ocean, stretching as far as the eye can see.

As I gaze into the horizon,
My mind free without a care.
It feels so good to be alone
All this beauty that I don't have to share.

As I sit in the sand I ponder,
I was not always alone this way.
I glance at the set of footprints leading away from me,
I remember watching you make them that fateful day.

As I sit the the wind picks up,
And waves begin to form.
My stomach uneasy,
The coming of a storm.

I start to wonder about my happiness,
As the waves crash on shore.
I start to wish I wasn't so alone,
And the wind picks up some more.

The wind whips the sand,
I feel a tear form in my eye.
For the wind blew away the footprints,
And the clouds began to cry.

My self once somber, now uneasy
The sky once blue, now Grey
My natural numbness begins to wear,
Its getting so dark, but I can feel things clear as day.

A chill crawls down my spine,
As lightening fills the sky.
Never felt so alone,
Alone is how I'll die.

I begin to reminisce,
as the tide begins to rise,
No signs of life anywhere,
Only a wave's last gurgle as it dies.

The water now up to my waist,
The skies once grey, now black.
Water fills the hole in my heart,
She's never coming back.

All I hear is thunder,
Only lightening shown.
All I taste is ocean,
And all I feel is alone.

Water now above my head,
All hope now leaving me.
Hopelessly reach my hands above the surface,
Things go black, I can't see.

My eyes open,
Another's palm in my hand.
I squint through the sun but all I see
Your footprints once again written in the sand.
