Old Fashioned Masquerade

by Julie   Jul 13, 2009

In a Ballroom
A midnight serenade
friend or foe
a perfect masquerade
Girls in Ball gowns
Men in cloaks
Dancing and Dancing
a large collection of folks
Girls in the Bathroom
powdering their noses
Boys in the corner
waiting with red roses
A rambunctious girl
An aristocratic boy
a mask
and a mask
no identity to enchain
the first impressions
good things left to gain
she dances freely
his arms are in place
he tries to hide
the slight upturn
on his face
her footsteps come easy
like she was born knowing all
a quick misplacement of his foot
she takes a fall
the floor feels much softer
than she thought it would be
so what does she turn and see
but the aristocratic boy laying perfectly beneath
not a match made in heaven
but a match made to be
a squib once or twice
but that was expected to be
what a wonderful masquerade
this turned out to be
