Just friends

I've come across a fork in the road,
don't know which way to go.
i'm afraid to love you,
if you could only know.

i don't want to hurt you;
it's not my intention to make you cry.
i just need to figure out
if our love is a lie.

it happened to me once before:
both sides hurt in the end.
i really do love you,
but perhaps we should remain just friends.
