One breath

by AngelicDecadence   Sep 24, 2009

She leans back against her wall,
A single tear lingers on her cheek,
Can't even bring herself to say a word,
When did she become this weak?

She looks in the mirror everyday,
With a plastic smile fixed in place,
During school no one will see,
Everything that hides behind that face.

At school her pain is bottled up inside,
Forced to watch him with another everyday,
Hurt but wanting to stay friends with him,
She tries to pretend that it's okay.

She takes one breath at a time,
Remembers they're just friends now,
He has a right to be happy,
But how much more pain will her heart allow?

*I love this poem I just wanted to say that first. But this stanza was my favorite. I can relate a lot to fixing myself up and putting on a smile so no one sees that I'm falling apart inside. I love how well this piece flows from line to line. Like a story unfolding. I felt like I knew the girl and like I could feel her pain. Which is very good, means you are good at telling a story :] I think you're doing well as a poet and I like your style of writing. Keep it up. Nik*
