A Short Stroll Through Life

by Scott E Buttross   Jun 15, 2004

Frost covered street lights dim our lives
Under moonshined nights.
Frail dreams walk our leashed collars
With a pause for time at every park bench.
Paved walks take us in circles on a routine.
Change goes unnoticed as we have become
Accustomed with closing our eyes.
As others pass by we shutter and take step to the side.
We are cold, and our pride makes us too old to speak.
For dissonance has separated our mutual bonds.
Day Cares shelter young minds,
We can not remember these times when
Childhood purity was our voice.
Innocent friendships not tainted by
Corrupt deception.
The musty air now limits our vision
To sharing only an acquaintance.
