Le pied et le serpent

by Gabba Gabba Hey   Oct 1, 2009

Fortunato wasn't the only one to be caught behind a stone wall.

Masonry falls heavily from the indefinable sky like a haze of dusty tears.
Like a waterfall, they descend:
murmuring, murmuring;
sighing like the soft fall of a lovers whisper.
A whisper: (nemo me impune lacessit.)

An aberration of kindly smiles cascades from this frozen face
that leads me away from myself.

Somewhere, hidden away, I am Montresor.
I tilt my head,
the action holding all the charm of a child
with the fangs of an adder:
and playfully, I lick the edges of a broken spade.

Staring into the irascible eyes of an uncouth confusion,
that leads me away from myself.

(whispers in my ear:)
My Luchesi is too far away, and lungs thick with drink and stale air;
I am but a lone man, sitting,

Requiescant in pace.

This is sort of an off shoot with a different angle of Imbroglio of Fortune. Yay.
