A Regretful Departure

by Anthony Vasconez   Oct 13, 2009

On Rainy days and dark cold nights
Were the same days I held him tight
Keeping both our chemistry warm
Feeling so safe throughout all storms

Though my worst pastime in a squall
Was when he gazed at me and stalled
Looking at me right through his eyes
Saying to me with tears he cried

"I wished upon a star for you
And here you are so pure and true
Each day I thank the Lord above
For leading me to my true love"

Hearing those words I shook and stared
And pulled away from feeling scared
Making excuses just to go
As I watched his final tears roll

As I walked home that dark cold night
feeling discussed from my fright
Seeing his face over again
knowing I lost something within

Yes I Know it's from a bad past
As I felt he moved way to fast
And I know I shouldn't compare
knowing damn well that it's not fair

As I leave things 'as is' and run
leaving things completely undone
coping with them in many ways
which drives me crazy to this day

But now on rainy days and nights
I wish I could just reunite
Just staring in his eyes so blue
And saying back "I love you too"
