Love Is Cruel

by The Lady of Shalott   Oct 23, 2009

Let me spin for you
a sweet, sad tale.
Of a Love that ended,
and left a girl quite unwell.

Broken though she was,
she loved him with all she had.
Even when he yelled,
even when he made her mad.

Though their love was short,
it was the purest she'd felt.
And she loved him true,
Even with the past she'd been dealt.

She wasn't good enough,
but she knew this, of course.
And she knew when it ended,
it would hit with a mighty force.

But she couldn't imagine,
the pain that came next.
It left her angry,
It left her vexed.

She wanted to scream,
she wanted to rage,
Instead she locked herself,
in a metaphorical cage.

We all know that
a caged bird dies.
She knew it, too.
But no one else realized.

Her facade so perfect,
she had them all fooled.
Who knew Love,
could be so cruel?
