I can't let go

by Never Shall I Break   Oct 25, 2009

She doesn't look.
Yet she still sees
They tell her god exists
But she doesn't believe
They tell her it will get better
And she laughs to their face
They make her say the prayer
But it's said with no faith.

She has been broken.
By herself, her friends, her family, you
They've all shattered pieces
She has nothing left to lose
You can't break her more
Though she's easy prey
She trusts too easily,
Then gets lost in the fray.

She doesn't look.
But it still makes her sick
To think of him time and again
To remember who he's with
She's friendly with silence
But her mind screams in pain
She gets paralyzed with hurt
If she even hears his name.

She has been broken.
But he wins the prize,
With his betraying accomplice,
Of bringing the most tears to her eyes
She doesn't feel
Yet he still caused so much hurt
His total indifference
Only making things worse.

She doesn't look.
And no one will fully see
They won't see how much he killed her
And at night they don't hear her scream
They don't feel her body shake
They don't see her lose control
Only she witnesses it every night
And only she knows how its taken its toll.

She has been broken.
But you can't see it on her face
She hides the deprivation with make up
And puts a smile in its place
She won't fall asleep in class
Because she's far too scared to sleep alone
But if you hold her in your arms
The pure exhaustion will become known.

She doesn't look.
But all it takes is to close her eyes
And soon she's melting down
Her body paralyzed with fright
She hears it in the silence
She can feel it on her hands
And no matter how hard they try
They will never understand.

She has been broken.
It shouldn't come as a surprise
She covers everything she can
But she can't hide her eyes
Don't look in them too deep
You'll see the true pain of her soul
You'll see her shattered heart
How they broke what wasn't whole.

She doesn't look.
She never will
She doesn't need sight
She can go by feel
She can wake up in the night
And know how much she'll hurt
But knowing what's to come
Only makes it worse.

She has been broken.
And she doesn't want to grieve
For something she hasn't lost yet
But something she can't see
But she doesn't feel him there anymore
And she needs him so
She doesn't look at the truth
Because she doesn't want to let go.
