Mr. Goodbye

by Francine   Nov 4, 2009

A long time ago
You smiled and looked me in my eye
And I should have heard you say,
"Hello, I am Mr. Goodbye"

So I let you in
It was good for a while
I was still a little guarded
And sure enough, see ya, Mr. Goodbye

And there went the first piece of me
While so many nights I'd cry
Til one day I put your memory in a box
Again, here comes Mr. Goodbye

Hello again, here's my heart
And so much time went by
Things were going so well
I forgot that you were Mr. Goodbye

So I gave you my everything
Said "I do" until we die
And then came Serenity
And she met Mr. Goodbye

Three weeks old she was
When you'd run and hide
Second time you left
Hello again, Mr. Goodbye

This time it hurt even more
So many tears I cried
One day I wrote a poem
And this was my goodbye

What was I thinking
How could I be so blind
I let you back again
After two goodbyes

You swore to me
I don't know why
But you had me believe
You were done with goodbyes

And two more years passed
I think i new deep inside
That the day would come
And you would say goodbye

But we had our little family
Until promises were lies
I thought we'd come so far
I hoped there was no more Mr. Goodbye

Until one day
You couldn't look me in the eye
And I knew once again
It was going to be goodbye

Sure enough,
It should have come as no surprise
My deepest fears came true
Hello again,Mr. Goodbye

This time it is for good
I have made a new life
And when I am ready
I will have to say goodbye

Put the memories in a box again
I think I'll burn them this time
NEVER again.
Goodbye, Mr. Goodbye.
