Are You Getting The Symbolism Yet?

The clocks have stopped working and all of the phone lines have been disconnected. Packed boxes sit unopened in the middle of the floor. Ever since then, the dust has consumed it all. It's always been understood that promises were never meant to be kept.
From the moment I saw you, I knew that they flowed from those beautiful lips just like carbon dioxide. I've always been sorry that life seems to be burning your lungs. Better measures should have been taken long ago to prevent such things.
There was never a time for farewells. Your walls were always too thick for goodbyes. I knew that the moment your words failed that there was no turning back. We've been staring at the ashes for years, almost as if we expected something to come from them.
I can see that you've wasted away. It's a shame to see such a beautiful face full of discord. I always admired how you held your own. It almost seems like you've put your all in me. I can't help but think that was a waste of your energy.
You're horribly weathered and your hands are constantly reaching for something that was never there to begin with. I hate being the bearer of bad news, but we were doomed from the start. I think we both tried to make the best out of what we had, but it's hard to make your best out of a pile of garbage.
You can drive until your car gives out, but that won't save you. It's too late to go home.
