A hint of his face

by Mr Rhee   Mar 27, 2010

We were walking down the street.
All of us, together, in the evening.
We saw things, and people all around,
all the lights, and all the sounds.

It was when we were crossing the street,
that I noticed he wasn't there.
I looked over the group,
and his face wasn't with the others.

"Where is --------?"
I looked up and down the street.
"Where did he go? Where did he go?"
"---------! --------! ---------!!"

We all looked and looked.
I told the rest to wait here for me.
I'll go back down the street.
"I'll find him. I'll find him!"

I ran down the sidewalk.
I looked side to side ahead of me.
I looked for the back of his head.
I looked for a hint of his face.

"----------! ----------! Can you hear me?!"
Two blocks, three, and on and on.
The light was fading, the dark was coming.
Store lights and street lights came on.

I stopped to catch my breath.
Hands on my knees, I looked around.
"No. No, this isn't happening.
No, no, no, no, no, nooooo"

I ran on looking at every boys face.
My heart was pounding!
I stopped, and looked at the lights.
This was where I saw him with me.

This was where I touched his shoulder.
After that, .......I don't know.
I don't remember when.......
"---------! ----------! Where are you?!"

I put my hand over my face!
No, please! Don't let this happen!
I felt the tears run down my face.
No....no...this can't be happening.

"-----------! ----------!! ....---------------!!
.......My eyes opened!
I was awake, it was another dream!
Deep breaths, deep breaths!

I looked around, and listened to the house.
Yes, I was home, it wasn't real.
It was just a nightmare.
Yeah, it was just a nightmare.
