City Romance

by Grunge Angel   Apr 2, 2010

The city, we knew, was bustling.
We know that city never sleeps.
The neon colored signs in windows
shouting promises into the streets.

We drove until the noise was gone,
the silence gave you away.
In my rear-view mirror I see you
still laughing tears away.

Something about those bright lights
shining on your head,
made you turn the other direction
to look at me instead.

What I saw was your expression:
a smile, the nod of your head,
your sheer colored eyes upon me,
and a wave of emotions that fled.

The lights, they got brighter
and the noise returned once more.
The crowds, they grew around us
trying to open up the door.

The carnage was inevitable
because he was drunk all along.
I guess in each other's arms
is where we always belonged.
