Should i? what should i? should? i? i should

by Throwin Shapes   Apr 8, 2010

A friend of mine passed a couple weeks ago, and shortly after i happened to watch a movie about a family grieving over the loss of their daughter/sister. subsequently, i became inspired to write the following:

should i laugh?
should i smile?
should i not think of you
for more than a while?

there are trails of you
in every thought i have
trails of grief
trails of wrath
but i walk over them
with a steady pace
with a steady face

i think that, sometimes
you get mad
i think that, sometimes
my denial is just a fad
until the trial in my brain
pounds the verdict down
of reality so insane
that i wake up in the night
with only you in my sight
that i speak of you present
with a feeling so unpleasant

should i laugh?
should i smile?
should i not think of you
for more than a while?

should i give up?
should i try?
should i drink this cup?
should i die?

i should breathe in
breathe out
watch your sand blow
all around
composed by the air
free of any human despair
to places i'll never go
to places i'll never know
