Zombie Love Letter: a True and Sincere Subconscious Story

by sibyllene   Jun 17, 2010

I had a dream last night that you were a zombie, with black eyes
like sharks'eyes,
and trickling blood,
decomposing a bit around the jaw.

I threw my arms around your decaying neck,
kissed your face all over and told you that
it didn't matter, it didn't matter, that I loved you and I'd love you forever.

You didn't try to eat my brains, which I appreciate,
you just said you loved me too.

It turns out zombieism tends to bring forward that inherently human inhumanity -
that drive to slaughter and glut and devour -
a desire that you, love,
have just never ever had.

You might make a poor zombie, dear, but nevertheless
you're a marvelous catch.

This is such a weird, ridiculous, unique, imaginative, hilarious poem. I love it. I've read it thrice now over the past several months but little did I know - til now - that I'd never commented.

    Nice work, Sibby.
Write more poems. I miss your stuff.
