The Two of Them

How much longer will it take till she finds out.
That everything in the end will ruin her,
tear her to shreds.
She poured her heart out,
only for this-

He promised a life for the two of them.
Their future was planned ahead.
She looked forward to every second of it,
as if she could almost taste it.
The nights went on,
as the girl dreamed of the two of them.

The boy,
convincing as can be,
played out his cards just right.
Knowing all the right moves,
and all the right tricks.
In his hand he held her heart,
knowing she put all her trust in him.

The girl,
convinced as can be,
never saw it coming.
She had never been such a fool,
to be head over heels in fake love.
He was a handy man at work,
and she was his tool.

He took her heart,
held it safe and secure.
Yet after a short time,
things began to untwine.
Confused,
she hung on tight.
For what was the ride of her life.

She waited day after day,
for him to set things right,
to show her everything was gunna be alright.
That day never came,
and yet she sits and waits.
Hoping that he will apologize,
for all he had done to do her wrong.
Without realizing it,
she has set herself up for disappointment.

The girl still doesn't know,
what it was that made him abandon her.
or why the boy would do this much damage.
All she has left is an empty chest,
for he still holds everything in the palm of his hand.

The boy goes on,
laughing and playing with the heart,
that he has torn apart with his bare hands.
