Dear Momma

Beginning before birth
Prior to the understanding of my individual worth
She comprehended my significance on earth
Three trimesters created the girth
Of a fetus,
Her and me, were,
Connected like the stars of Cetus
You were now a mom; I was at that point, your only son
If I jerked, you experienced the vibrations as they begun
Subconsciously I knew her voice, at night, to me, she always sung
Right before delivery, the doctor explained the negativity
The umbilical cord was holding my breath
I knew you gasped along with me, as the pediatrician
Let you know my vitals were in serious condition
Praying to the lord, to let me defeat death
So you could hold and caress me, next to your beating breast
Whispering stories of future memories to put me to rest
I was blessed to have a teacher, a fan in the bleachers,
Every time I struck out a batter, or for all the times she knew
Exactly what was the matter, she watched me grow, watched my life unfold
I will forever be grateful, and apologize
A hundred times over for the times I was hateful
For the times I let my emotions get the best of me
All that I am, is because you were always right next to me
When I wanted to learn to cook, you taught me the measurements of a recipe
As soon as I wanted to swim, you taught me the trick was to, just jump right in
There is no replacing you, a renaissance woman; there is nothing you can't do
Dear Momma, there's not enough thank you's
Beginning before birth
Prior to the understanding of my individual worth
She comprehended my significance on earth
Three trimesters created the girth
Of a fetus,
Her and me, were,
Connected like the stars of Cetus
