A Mother Of Mine

by South C   Nov 11, 2010

I look into the past, and I only see one
The one who birthed, and confirmed me as her son
As a strong believer, shes made it all happen
If I was in the military, she'd be my first captain
My mother is strong, so don't mistaken her power
She's built with intelligence, like a well scented flower
Even though she was abused, and beatin by my father
Stepping up to her now, my father wouldn't bother
When I was just two, he purposely broke her neck
When she told me about the past, it put my life in a wreck
Ive never found somebody, who'll bend over backwards me
You put your shoes in my views, for my life you'll see
Hotdogs and beans thats all we had to eat
She had three jobs, but couldn't afford ens meat
I remember the times, she fixed us toast with butter
To go with the toast, was a large glass of water
Eleven people she fed, so you do the math
I thank and love you mom, for setting me on this path
She would always say, treat the ladies with respect
With the needs of a woman, there's a lot she expects
Im proud to say, she's always been a part
Of my life and more, she's the source to my heart
We had some bad times, as well in the past
She would school me on the girls, who would try and be fast
Her favorite line was to say "don't make me punch you in your socket"
But she's a good women she'll give her last dime to put in your pocket
As time passed on, my mother progressed with ease
Another quote she said "It was okay to make D"
To progress is the key, don't make the same error twice
Everytime she'd beat me, I'd freeze up like ice
I would only freeze up, just to keep her thinking
That she had beatin me enough, to where the bed would start sinking
She wasn't a strict mother, so I was to blame
But not once would I think, to put my moms name to shame
When I got a lil older, I moved away with my dad
I regret those days, but my mom wasn't mad
She knew I'd come back, cause she'll always be first
Living without her, is like dying from thirst
My mother is tatted, deep on to my chest
Cause like the man in the sky, she's above all the rest
For those of you who don't know, my father kicked me out
But I controlled and never fold, cause my mom said never pout
I would always think twice, for each way I approached her
Cause you should never disrespect, your biological mother
I tried it once, when I was a part of the street
Now I think, and I usually take a seat
Best believe I got smart, cause I knew she won't playin
I know my poem is long, but listen to what I'm sayin
My mother is sick, with four areas of cancer
When she was rushed to the hospital, I received no answer
Eight surgeries she suffered, and now she's back on her feet
Without my mom, my life is incomplete
Three times a day, I call to say hi
The one thing I hate, is to end it with bye
She calls at any time, cause I'm always alert
To let her know her son, has her back when she's hurt
City counsils her job, and now my mom's making stacks
Felt good to realize, my mom's pic was on a plaque
Honors and more, is what my mom got in school
From her intelligent guidance, I will never be a fool
A fool that is, with the lack of a brain
Which would cause my mother, to probably go insane
There's a lot of great mother's, with all sorts of names
But the best of them all is my mom Wanda James
