Heart Plug

by StarGirl   Nov 22, 2010

Something I wrote about the hardness of open relationships or "friends with benefits".

Like a plug to stop water from going down the bathtub drain
I'm plugging up my heart from you.
Without this plug, the water swirls
Ever down wards, ever draining.

Like an hour glass glued to the bottom of a table,
Unable to turn it over,
Like a soda bottle water tornado,
These feelings spin and swirl
Ever down wards, ever draining.

If this water runs dry,
If it leaves me parched and thirsty,
And nothing but the dirty residue remains
Will you be there?
Will you be there with a carafe?
Will you make me laugh by parading it in on a giraffe?

The simple truth is you don't know
The simple truth of all this is
You hold the chain
And I'm calling in for reserves.
The simple truth is,
I don't know if it will ever be unplugged.
