Sarah's Smile

by StarGirl   Nov 22, 2010

A work in progress. Ever since I started listening to Kate Nash, my writing style has changed into more story poetry than rhyme (with the exception of a couple poems) and really going into a much more personal level and at least to me, almost lyrical. This poem feels more like a song to me than anything. (At least I would like it to be) This poem is just based on a real event that just lasted for a few brief moments... It's also the longest thing I've written I think. So without further adieu...

Sarah's Smile

He calls my name,
Sarah, Sarah, Sarah
I almost don't turn around
Because I know it's you.

And I get that really dorky smile,
Whenever your around.
And you look at me kinda funny
Like we're sharing a joke
That I don't quite understand.
And I get this funny feeling
I'm excited and nervous all at once.

You wonder why I always smile
And I know this because... you asked
And I wonder if I should lie
Or to tell the truth....

I could tell you that I'm strange
That what bothers others,
Rarely phases me
I could tell you that I'm shy
That I smile so nobody else will see
I could tell you, I could tell you,
I have a million types of smiles
But I guess you'll just have to wait and see....

I look at you and I tilt my head,
While I think of what to say...
You jump right in before my words are out
And ask,
Are you just happy?
Or are you laughing at a private joke.
And the simpliest reply is, a little of both.
But I guess you just have to be me..

Would you want to know, would you want to know
What goes on in my head?
Would you want to know, would you want to know
Was it just a question out of curiosity?
Or did you really want to know.
I'm smiling like a cheshire cat
Because theres no way to get the answer free.
