Estrangement

by Beautiful Chaos   Feb 3, 2011

Somber shadows cast across the floor
Growing with the coming night
As they consume me
I sink slowly into my past

Stars twinkle like forgotten dreams
Distant aspirations laid to sleep
Silent needs and raging wants
Fighting to let go, yet hold on

Twisted trees reaching into the sky
Like my distorted arms, a desperation
Seeking to find solace
Something they know

Winged creatures of darkness
Soaring into the night like my thoughts
Unsure of where they go
But a hunger to find sustenance

The moon hangs heavy in the sky
Like this heart in my chest
Lonely and vacant
Unaware of those who view it in wonderment

I strive to hold the peace I knew
The person I once was
The nights that enveloped me with warmth
Before this winter set in
