Life Sentence

by Just Jessy   Mar 20, 2011

I read his letters every night,
I long for him to be here,
I know its not gonna happen,
For at least another year.
Some see it as romantic,
That I would wait this long,
But I see it as a life sentence,
When Ive done nothing wrong.
I took it all for granted,
When he was here,
The hugs and the kisses,
Him just being near.
If I had known this would happen,
I would of savored everyday,
I would of held him that bit longer,
And loved him in every way.
I would have told him every morning,
I would hold him every night,
I wouldn't let silly things happen,
That would cause us to fight.
I love him so deeply,
With all of my heart,
I need him back home,
I hate to be apart.

Your poem rang so true in affairs of the heart. We think what we have will last forever and there is no need to work at it. This is a lesson I have learned. like you I won't make the same mistake.
    Well said, well written
