Never Knew

I never thought the day would come
When my heart stopped loving you,
I thought it was impossible
After all that we've been through.

I used to think I loved you
And in some way I probably did,
But looking back at it now
I know I was just a kid.

I can see you never cared as much
As I know I did back then,
But we were near inseparable
And more than just "best friends".

We shared our hopes and dreams

With a bond so strong
Who know we'd end up here.

We've both moved on with our lives
And found somebody new,
But we'll never share with them
The things we used to do.

They'll never know the fun we had
Growing up together,
Spending those longs days at school

Driving in your car.

They'll never know our inside jokes
Or see the twinkles in our eyes,
When we saw each other across the room
Or tears when we said our goodbyes.

They'll never have our last dance
When the world was finally right,
You put your arms around me and sang

My heart skipped a beat
And the butterflies did stir,
I got lost in that moment
Of one thing only I was sure.

Nothing could come between us
We were meant to be,
A love was never stronger
But that is not the case it seems.

I understand that life moves on
And grown-ups we've become,
But that doesn't mean to stop your dreams
Before they have begun.

These changes you've made
Are not minor at all,
We never see each other
You never seem to call.

I can't even remember now
Who you used to be,
You've lost your sense of self
But I'm the same old me.
