My Phone Call

I picked up the phone..
My hands were trembling..
I had wished he didn't pick up..

*"Hi sweetie" I heard him say,
A sort of happiness in his tone..
I started to cry..
So I covered the phone..

"Hello?" he said..
I finally said "Hi"..
At that moment
he started to cry..

I broke down,
Telling him all..
About how my life..
Had taken a fall..

I never sleep,
I never eat..
I stay at home..
And sit and think..

Where and when did I go wrong?
Why can't I be with you?
Please just tell me now..
What did I do?

He said "My love,
It would never work,
I'm trying to save you..
From getting hurt..

I didn't understand,
He said he would explain..
And when he did ..
I feel in love with him..
All over again..

You see, my fiancee
was in the army..
soon to be on leave..
but the day he had called me..
he had been sent overseas..

He didn't want me to worry..
He didn't want me to cry..
He didn't want me to to be afraid..
That he was going to die..

Here's how I replied..

I love you more then words can say..
I love you more, with each passing day..

No matter how far, I am from you..
To you I always will be true..

And if I have to wait forever that is what I'll do..
Cuz no matter what my love, I'm going to marry you..

~ I hear a silence,
Then his voice..
He said I can't ,
I've made my choice..

*click* i heard the phone go dead,
and a million thoughts went through my head..

I started to cry, and sat down the phone,
and returned to my new life, of being alone..

( I'm not for sure, if he meant to hang up yesterday,
but every time I call him I get an out of service message,
I'm so afraid, and I would just like to know that hes ok..) Thank you all for your advice..

    Dont be afraid, you cant live ur life in fear. You say you love him sooo much. then go ahead and love him. follow ur heart girl. if u said you would wait for him, then wait. if he ever loved you like he said he did.... then he will return to you. just remember that. If he returns then he was always urs.

    Your poem is great and I read others to and theres not a single one I didnt like I hope one day I can write as good about love as you because until I met my Boyfriend all I knew was hate I feel bad about that poem and everything thats really sad I hope he comes back to you because no matter wht I think no body is ever strong enough to live with out the one they LOVE

    Oh girl..dont think you have reason to be 'afraid' per say..just yet, but feeling for you...I'm sure there was a way you wish you could convince him, etc..that you'd wait forever..but he apparently has made up his mind for the time being..however...if it's meant to be he will realize how much he thinks of you and misses you when you're not together and will come running back...take care girl and be strong..love is SO hard sometimes..but so worth it in the end too...good luck..luv Michelle :) btw..terrific poem..wondefully put thoughts into words...:)
