Only Fire

by Molly Elizabeth   Apr 26, 2011

Time and time again.
When will I learn,
don't trust the fire.
It only can burn.

You will say you're different
and that I can let you in
but if you can't take the worst of it,
what are you really waiting for but your next excuse to leave.

It's all a lie;
every word of it.
And it's harsh and cold
and I'm over believing it.
I'm over understanding
I'm over falling
I know you won't stick around
they never stay long.

You say, "don't judge me like the rest."
You were right.
At least the others knew they were wrong,
you're so convinced you're a better man.
I see right through you.
You are not who you hoped you would be.

And I will never understand,
how you fed me every line.
How you just walked away
after every secret that I told you.
I believed you would stay,
I felt so safe in you're arms.

You say "I'd never judge you."
You said it over and over,
maybe trying to convince yourself it was true.
It wasn't true.
All along that's all you did.
I have never felt so judge, so used
by anyone...
So tell me yet, another line!
I promise, this time I won't believe it.

And lie some more,
tell me how much you care;
that girls like me are so very hard to find.
If I made you feel so wonderful then,
what REALLY happened to change you're mind?

Well, I'm wiser than that,
I've already faced it... you're on your way out of my door. You've already closed your heart.
You've long ago closed your mind.

Time and time again;
I've been fooled by someone like you.
But... you are ONLY fire.
I WON'T let you burn.
